About the Department
The department was set-up in 1971 to impart education of General Hindi and Hindi Literature at under graduate level. Later, in 1986 post graduate classes also started. The department focuses on development of various language skills by organizing several activities like recitation of poems, story telling, essay writing, debates etc. This encourages the students to publish their articles in literary magazines, local dailies, weeklies and air these from Aakashwani, Najibabad. The department is involved in doctoral research and project works since 1989. Till date 15 students have been awarded Ph.D. Every year the department forms Hindi Literature Association for the development of positive attitude towards Hindi. Hindi Diwas is celebrated by means of various activities, magazine exhibition, exhibition of portraits of Hindi literary persons. Recently one of our research scholars Km. Vandana Sharma has been honoured with ‘Adhyasati Alankaran Award’ for her publication activities by Himakshara Rashtriya Sahitya Parishad, Madhya Pradesh on the occasion of ‘Pustak Lokarpan Evam Samman Samaroh’ at Wardha. The departmenet is also keen on taking out rallies around the city for spreading awareness of the language from time to time. The department organizes special lectures of eminent literary persons. At present around 900 students are learning Hindi Literature & Hindi Language. The department has been conducting Doctrate programme in research since 1989.Till now 36 students have been awarded Ph.D degree. The Department organised Two Day National seminar on 1 and 2 November 2022, sponsered by Uttar Pradesh Bhasha Sansthan Lucknow. A one-day seminar was organised on the occasion of Hindi Diwas on 14 November 2023. In these seminars, eminent Hindi scholars delivered lectures on various topics benefitting the teachers and students. In 2023, the former Chief Minister of Delhi University,started Smt. Heera Devi Chhatravrati Yojana in the memory of his mother, under which every year a cash amount of five thousand rupees and a certificate is given to the top ranked girl student who graduates with Hindi subject. In the session 2023-2024,our student Kumari Pooja Vishwas secured the highest rank with 78.45% marks in M.A fourth semester. Also Kumari Shikha secured the top position with 77.59% marks in M.A. final year, she is honored with smt Heera Devi Chhatravrati along with certificate.
